Oracle Corp. has just announced that it will acquire it’s rival, Sun Microsystems for $9.50/share or about $7.4Bil.

“This combination is a natural evolution of our relationship and will be an industry-defining event,” Sun’s co-founder and CEO Scott McNealy said.

this came about after the talks between IBM (Oracle’s competitor) and Sun failed to materialize around two weeks ago.

what this means is that Oracle has now also obtained Sun’s popular MySQL database, which has become popular with companies expanding their operations. i’m afraid this would mean, “bye bye MySQL! hello chubby java!” 😦
