if you’re wondering slow response on the internet yesterday, that’s because there was a cut (again) in the Asia-Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) undersea submarine cable, which in fact affected most of the asia-pacific region including Singapore and Philippines.

Malaysian telco – TM Net states that the cable fault was traced in segment 7 of the APCN2, which stretches between Shantou, China and Tanshui, Taiwan. the outage was caused by typhoon Morakot, which hit the region over the weekend (named Kiko, when it swept the Philippines).

repairs are on going and is expected to complete later tonight.

back in 2006, the same thing happened when Taiwan was hit by an earthquake, this caused disconnection of Philippines/et. al. with the rest of the Internet world!
